Singapore Sling

One of our favorite places on earth is Singapore. TL: I remembered our first visit. We flew in to the airport (before the waterfall was put in), transferred to the cruise port and checked in to our SE Asia cruise with Celebrity Cruises then we took a cab from the cruise port to the Marina Bay area to explore. The Marina Bay area is so impressive and it left a really good mark in my heart.

The Marina Bay Hotel is impressive in the day and at night. TL: I wonder if we could afford to stay there one day?

One of our favorite pastimes in Singapore is visiting hawker centers and trying different dishes. On our last trip (in March 2024), we stayed at the Bencoolen Hotel on Hong Kong Street and it was near the Hong Lim Hawker Center. One morning, we had a curry chicken on rice for breakfast. TL: I don't usually have curry in the morning but Ah Heng was on my must-try list so I had to order it, even if it was for breakfast.

One of the recommended vendors was 'Ah Heng Duck Rice'.

TL: This was delicious. The duck was braised in a sweet soya sauce like a master sauce. A plate of duck and a bowl of rice was served.

TL: I felt sorry for this vendor because he wasn't getting much business. He had a selection of things including fried shrimp patties, black century old eggs, etc.

We bought a plate to try and it was all good.

Most of the vendors were friendly but not this guy. When we ordered a juice from him, he would take our money, turn around, make the juice and serve us. No thank you's, nothing said. TL: My recommendation is the lime juice.

This isn't Hawker Chan but his competitor in the Chinatown Complex.

Singapore is famous for the Hainan Chicken. With Michelin chef, Hawker Chan, every chef in town tries to make it better.

When we flew in to the new Changi airport, we wanted to see the waterfall which opened at 8:30 am. I thought it was always 'on' but I was wrong. We decided to go to the food court for some breakfast.

Everything here was fried.

Note the name - they are everywhere in Singapore including in Sentosa.

TL: This was delicious.

A must-try dish is the 'char kway teow', a rice noodle dish.

There was a fruit vendor outside of the Hong Lim Hawker Center that had fresh cut fruits for sale at 3 pkgs for $10.

"Durian" was readily available.

Chinatown was a little further from the Hong Lim Hawker Center but it was still walkable. TL: I found it very enjoyable to visit. The streets were decorated with dragons and everything was colorful.

Gardens by the Bay is behind the Marina Bay Hotel.

On our first visit to Singapore, we didn't get a chance to get up to the walkways above ground. This trip we did and it was great.

We visited the Cloud Forest, SuperTrees and Sentosa. More pictures to come...so please visit this blog again.
