Collecting Sea Glass at Glass Beach in Sydney, BC
On the way back from Vancouver island, we visited Sydney, BC for some dinner and to spend some time at the beach. We drove around and stopped by the Glass Beach to look for some sea glass. Pictured below is me with my telescope, looking for valuable sea glass. Lol.
Actually, The sculpture, titled "The Lost Airmen of the Empire," was created by Victoria sculptor Illarion Gallant. It's a tribute to pilots, navigators, and other air crew members who were stationed at the air base.
The reason why there is so much sea glass on the beach is because back in 1950, there was a glass factory on the water. It burnt down and all the glass from this factory has settled on this beach after years of waves washing it.
The Glass Beach is between Beacon Park and Bevan Fishing Pier.
I was hoping to find some colorful pieces instead of matte transparent glass but it's there for the treasure hunters. Have you been to Glass Beach and have found sea glass? If you have, please drop me a comment and show me your stash.
