Our First Visit to Busan, South Korea

Our first visit to South Korea was to Pusan or Busan. The port looked very modern and work seem to had started around the port for the World Expo in 2030.

We took an Uber from the cruise port to Haeundae Beach area (pronounced like the car manufacturer Hyundai) to enjoy the day.

Thinking back to our visit, we should have bought tickets to ride the Sky Capsules instead of exploring the area first. By the time we wanted to ride the capsules, it was sold out. There was a train but we didn't want to ride it.

We walked along the boardwalk that the Sky Capsules would travel. We almost walked as fast as the capsules but instead of sitting in the capsule high up, we walked and enjoyed the ocean views the same.

Here are some pictures from our walk:

It was almost clear enough to see Japan to the east.

It was a beautiful walk and we enjoyed it very much. When we reached the end of the walk, we visited the lighthouses and took some photos of the fishing village and the boats. We then found a Korean restaurant to try their authentic 'KFC'.

Seaweed and kelp were drying everywhere.

We also visited the highest Starbucks in the world. See our coffee post in Busan.

The floor was glass and you can see the crashing waves beneath the structure. Cindy loved walking it and kept challenging me to go on it. I'm usually not as keen as she is, but I eventually did. I just get paranoid sometimes, thinking when I step on the glass, it's going to crack (with my luck).

After Haeundae Beach, we took an Uber back to the ship, then jumped on the city shuttle to explore downtown Busan. First stop was the fish market and it was huge. We walked down the first aisle and saw tanks and tanks of fish and shellfish.

Fresh swimming cuttlefish.

Do you like prawns? I do. These prawns were huge. The ones on the top were 4-5 inches long and the ones on the bottom were 10-12 inches long.

From the fish market, we went across the street to shop. There was a street fair going on and we wanted to have a closer look. It was a great place to buy luggage, home supplies, clothing, beauty supplies especially skin care which is big in Korea and luxury goods.

Have you visited Busan, South Korea before? If so, please leave us a comment. If not, plan on it in 2030 when the World Expo is hosted in Busan.
